IEEE AP-S 2022 Student Travel Grant

The IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (AP-S) Membership and Benefits Committee awarded 20 PhD students a travel grant of 1000 USD to participate in person at the 2022 IEEE AP-S Symposium on Antennas and Propagation (APS 2022) that will take place 10-15 July 2022 in Denver, Colorado, USA. The selection committee was led by Prof. Mohammad S. Sharawi, Polytechnique Montreal, Canada. 20 applicants were granted this award, they are:


Adnan Patwary: Adnan Basir Patwary is a second year PhD student at the Department of Electrical Engineering of University of North Texas. He completed his bachelor's degree from Bangladesh and started his PhD from spring 2021. His research focuses on design and development of antennas and microwave circuits for communication and wireless power transfer.



I am Anil Kumar Nayak, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Amalendu Patnaik at the Indian Institute of Roorkee, India. Currently, I have been working as a visiting research scholar under the supervision of Dr. Kambiz Moez, the University of Alberta, since February 2021. My research interest includes Substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) -based planar- transitions and antennas for 5G applications.



Bashir Gazali: is a Phd student in Electrical Engineering Department at Indian Institute of Technology Jammu ,India.My research area include millimeter wave antennas,digital metasurface reflectarray,transmit array antennas,transmit-reflect array antennas for high gain applications.Also the design of reconfigurable metasurface antenna for beam steering ,multibeam beam antennas for millimeter wave applications.


B Kim

Bumhyun Kim: I am currently pursuing the 2nd year of Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering with the Pohang University of Science and Technology, Pohang, South Korea. My research interests include millimeter-wave 5G and sub-THz 6G hardware designs for wireless communication and optically invisible display-integrated phased-array antenna. I served as a session co-chair in 2021 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting (APS/URSI) and was selected as an “Honorable Mention” in this 2022 IEEE AP-S Student Paper Competition.


D Kim

Daehyeon Kim: I received the B.S. degree in radio science and engineering from Chungnam National University, Daejeon, South Korea, in 2020 and the M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Pohang University of Science and Technology, Pohang, South Korea, in 2022. I'm currently working toward the Ph.D. degree, and my research interests include reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) using a nematic liquid crystal for 5G and 6G communication.



Dongseop Lee: I am currently pursuing the 2nd year of Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering with the Pohang University of Science and Technology, Pohang, South Korea. My main research topic is optimizing the design solution of Antenna-in-packaging (AiP) and optically invisible Antenna-on-Display (AoD) for beamforming techniques at 5G/6G frequency bands. I contributed to the paper, which is integrated a transparent antenna in display panel for microwave wireless communication and new solutions for enhancing AoD performance in the 2021 IEEE AP-S/URSI and 2022 IEEE AP-S/URSI, respectively.



Gopika Reghunadhan: is pursuing her research on the topic of design and development of radiative wireless power transfer systems at the Indian Institute of Space science and Technology (IIST), Trivandrum, India. She has published her works in reputed conferences and also serves as an active execom member of IEEE AP-S Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology Student Branch Chapter. She has also received the best paper award in the IEEE AP-S track of IEEE Recent Advances in Geoscience and Remote Sensing: Technologies, Standards and Applications (TENGARSS), India 2019 and her research interests include energy harvesting arrays, antenna array systems and feedback systems for wireless power system efficiency improvement.



Hao Qin: Hao Qin is currently a Ph.D. student in the School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, University College Dublin, Ireland. His research is in the interdisciplinary areas of applied electromagnetics and wireless communications. A particular focus is on the development of high-performance computational models/algorithms for wireless technologies.



Hassan Naseri: Hassan received his BSc and MSc in electrical engineering from University of Tabriz, Tabriz, Iran, 2013-2020. He is currently doing his PhD at Institut national de la recherche scientifique, INRS (EMT), University of Quebec, Montreal, Canada. His research areas are self-multiplexing antennas, OAM generating antennas, and beam steerable structures for 5G networks.



Nor Hazima binti Ardzemi: Nor Hazima is currently pursuing a PhD at IIUM on a software-defined radar for surface and subsurface sensing. Her research is focused on developing a system that is capable of detecting small displacements that could be used in a landslide detection system. She is currently in her third year of studies and aspires to work in radar research.



Karthikeya Anil Kumar: Karthik has started his PhD program in Electrical Engineering at The University of North Texas in Fall 2021, and he has his current research focus on applications related to Millimeter wave 5G and 6G Technology. Specifically, on mm Wave Phased arrays for beam steering applications.



Md Ashif Islam Oni: Md Ashif Islam Oni is a doctoral student in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering under the supervision of Dr. Shuvashis Dey. He completed Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree from France and Spain in December, 2018. Currently, he is working on Satellite link budget calculation and antenna design for Satellite IoT Communication, as well as the design of metamaterial-based antennas and metasurfaces for applications relevant to 5G and beyond.



Md Mirazur Rahman: I am currently pursuing my Ph.D. degree in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North Dakota State University. My areas of research interest include RF and microwave engineering, smart antennas for mobile and satellite communications, smart antenna arrays, beam-forming networks, RFID, wireless sensors, and networks, 5G and IoT.



Rajeev Shukla: Rajeev Shukla is currently pursuing his Ph.D. Degree from National Institute of Technology (Durgapur, West Bengal, India). His research interests include 5G, millimeter waves, channel modelling, and cognitive radio.



Shyam Sundar Pati: Shyam Sundar Pati is a first year Ph.D. student in the department of electrical engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Palakkad, India under the supervision of Dr. Swaroop Sahoo. He completed his Masters in Physics with specialization of Quantum Information and Computing and upgraded to MSc-Ph.D. in the field of Quantum remote sensing. His areas of research include ongoing metamaterial- based techniques and methods on radar cross section reduction for enhancing the stealth ability of the defense aircrafts and finding the loop hole in the classical concepts for extending it into quantum regime in future.



Siti Zainab Binti Moh: Siti Zainab is a PhD. Student at IIUM specializes in Antenna and Machine Learning studies. Interests also include designing and simulation, research, and data science. She is currently in her third year of studies and plans to pursue her passion for research in the future.



Sk Rafidul: Sk Rafidul is a Ph.D. student at Institute of Radio Physics and Electronics, University of Calcutta, Kolkata. His current research interests include the engineered ground and metasurface for high gain, low cross-polarized antennas for future wireless communications.



Suchitra Tiwari: Suchitra Tiwari is currently working toward the Ph.D. degree at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Jammu, Jammu and Kashmir, India. Her current research interests include design and development of microwave and millimeter-wave metasurface lens antennas for high gain, beamsteering, and multibeam applications. She is also working on design and development active metasurfaces employing PIN diodes at millimetre-wave frequencies and design of MIMO antennas for 5G communication systems.



Sunil Gaddam: I’m a PhD student in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BICB) program at University of Minnesota, US. My research interests include biomedical applications of Microwave/RF, medical devices for cardiac electrophysiology therapies and applications of AI/ML in medical science.



Yuchen Gu: Yuchen Gu received the B.S. in electrical engineering from University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, WI, USA, where he is currently pursing the Ph.D. degree with the vdW group since 2019. His research interests include EM applications in medicine and machine learning aided RF measurements.
